Akron High
School was
built in 1885 at a cost of $135,000. The
original building included twelve
classrooms, an assembly room, library,
museum, and offices for the board of
education and the superintendent. An
addition was added in 1907. The building
was renamed Central High School when South
High School was built in 1912. In 1973,
the building was destroyed and the
Central-Hower High and Vocational School
was built.
